Case of the Mondays: South by South-WHO? edition

As it gets closer, I’m going to feature more artists performing at this year’s SXSW, because I wish I could go. Gimmy, start saving your pennies; we have to go next year, before we’re too old for it to be fun. If you’ll excuse me, I have a snow day to go celebrate. Please enjoy Ezra Furman and the Harpoons.

These guys have toured with Blind Pilot. Their 2007 release, “Banging Down the Doors,” was critically acclaimed. There is a harmonica involved. “Charming” is a good start. Furman’s creaky, half-sung tales are funny, and though the narrators often pursue anonymity (as in the straightforward punkish frenzy of “I Wanna Be Ignored” or the 70s-inflected metaphor of “Take Off Your Sunglasses”) it’s fairly certain that Furman and the Harpoons won’t be ignored for long.

For fans of: BADASS SUMMARIES LIKE THAT ONE I JUST WROTE, unconventional vocals, not taking off your sunglasses, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (took me forever to put my finger on that one).
