Now-Expired Jams of 2009
by Katie
If I’m recalling the laws of nature correctly, after December 31, any songs released in the just-ended year expire, and listening to them is likely to give your ears food poisoning (which is a thing that can happen, probably). But because I slacked and hesitated to post this list of my jams of ’09, I’m going to put you all at risk. At least it’s not H1N1!
What is a jam, you ask? For my purposes, it’s any song that makes me shake it. So shake it we shall! No ranking, no pretending I’ve heard every song released this year, just the ones I enjoyed tooooooo much.
- Olivia and the Mates – Get Real Low
- Beyonce – Single Ladies (released in ’08, but certainly one of the best anythings ever)
- Discovery – Orange Shirt
- M.I.A. – Paper Planes (yes, this came out in 2007 but I distinctly remember dancing to it in January and February, so I’m including it.)
- Beirut – Mimizan
- Jukebox the Ghost and Jenny Owen Youngs – Last Person
- Jukebox the Ghost – Temptation (because I couldn’t NOT mention it!)
- Phoenix – 1901
- Thao – When We Swam (but basically everything of Thao’s)
- Monsters of Folk – Say Please
- Ida Maria – I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked
- Benjy Ferree – I Get No Love
- Lady Gaga – Bad Romance (I admit it, I’ve come around)
- Conor Oberst – Slowly (Oh So Slowly)
- The Very Best – Warm Heart of Africa
Ok, I have to be honest: I did have a #1 jam this year. Did you guess what it is?
So long, 2009! May 2010 not be such a butt-head to you and yours.
(All MP3s are for the purposes of FUN TIMES ONLY. Don’t be a pirate; buy the damn albums.)
*sigh* harlem shakes. it was the makings of the best birthday ever.
