A Year In This Blog
by Katie

This blog turned 1 year old on October 7th, and we didn’t realize until around the 22nd. So I’m just going to pretend we’re 1 year old RIGHT NOW (the way birthdays work, we still are, although most people count babies under about 3 by month, for some reason), since this was the first full year we were blogging. (Also, I am really good at stretching logic and parenthetical asides to an absurd length.) After the jump, find a little information about what, of all the nonsense I wrote, y’all read the most times; which were the most common and most awesome search terms that led people here; and whatever else I think is funny.
Most Viewed Posts:
1. Shows I Want To See in 2009 – 544 views (REALLY?? That many?? PS Update, I saw Beirut, and might go see Gogol Bordello on Sunday. That is not bad!)
2. The 3 Most Useless Characters in West Side Story – 377 views (most of them people googling “sad puppy” pictures, and getting a lot more than they bargained for.)
3. Spencer Breslin Has a Band – 252 views (In which Mikey is rude about some kid he saw carrying a guitar down the street.)
4. People Who Look Like Shakespeare – 209 views (I’m noticing that nothing I write about music matters to you assholes. FINE I will start a new blog, “Katie Photoshops Herself Awkwardly And That Is The Punch Line To Every Post.”)
5. Postcards from Philadelphia: Beirut at the Electric Factory – 189 views (Apparently nonsense like “I’m carrying Zach Condon’s voice’s baby” is the key to relative music blog success, which I define very loosely, as all of the previous page view numbers probably indicate to you.)
How Suckers Got Here From Google (I’m nothing if not frank.)
1. Puppy (told you)
2. Bret McKenzie (I’m noticing a correlation between common search terms and page views.)
3. Sad puppy (double-told you; related: sad puppy face)
4. Music for Misanthropes (GUYS I am so flattered! Related common searches include musicformisanthropes.com (which I’d assume was meant to be typed in the address bar, but it was searched 18 times so maybe it was one of our elderly readers?), misanthropes, and “misanthropic music” which is probably not them searching for us, specifically, but I’ll pretend it was.)
5. Spencer Breslin (Additional searches included Spencer Breslin music, Spencer Breslin fat, Spencer Breslin band, and Spencer Breslin 2009. I just want more Spencer Breslin searches to end up here.)
Best Ways Suckers Got Here From Google
1. Paul McCartney’s Fruity Music – this was searched exactly once, but I remember it because that is the best search term I’ve ever seen. I even tweeted about its awesomeness. I hope this person found what he or she looking for!
2. Hot Dudes – I only occasionally write about them, so maybe I’ll objectify indie rockers more and then more than 8 people will land here with that search. Hmmmmmmmm…………………….. (Later…) THIS BLOG IS NOW CALLED MUSIC BY HOT DUDES AND ALSO HOT LADIES (WHY NOT?) FOR MISANTHROPES, AND EVERY POST WILL CONTAIN SEXY PHOTOS AND A LOT OF DOUBLE ENTENDRES. IT WILL BE LIKE READING CHRISTINA AGUILERA LYRICS ALL THE TIME! (Ed note: LOL what even is that song???? “Sip upon a champagne”? “Put your icing on my cake”??? Also, did I really hear this song at the dentist’s office, three days after they were listening to Christian rock? Answer to that last question: yes.)
3. Dating a hipster – Yes, we did cover that! I hope we answered all of these people’s questions about that bearded dude/lady with the potato tattoo (WAYSIDE SCHOOL REFERENCES TO THE MAX!) and the fixie.
As far as I can remember, this has been a fun year of blogging. I made some friends (not as many as I made enemies, but I try to be optimistic), I wasted a lot of time, and I got linked by TWO awesome feminist blogs. Mikey got a link from I Rock I Roll, too, which seemed like a big deal, except actually that was in 2008, so never mind.
Blog Resolution this year? Blog better/regularly, and blog-network better/more.
