This Guitar is TAKING OVER THE WORLD
by Katie
Do we have any guitar wonks reading? Can you please explain to me why everyone in the world suddenly rocks a Gibson SG? Specifically, why do they all rock the exact same cherry red SG?
This one:

Wanted for Questioning
I first espied it in the hands of one of Jenny Lewis’s band members:

and I thought it was pretty sick. What an essentially rock guitar! It distorts beautifully and it looks like FIRE. That is the hotness right there.
Then I was perusing Elle’s list of the best female guitarists (obviously) only to find that this guitar is like the town bike—everyone gets a ride. Check it:
Lita Ford:

Carrie Brownstein:

Ruyter Suys:

This guy from Incubus:

Wait, he wasn’t one of the greatest female electric guitarists of all time. He was playing at a festival. (Apparently, Incubus still exist!)
Then there’s

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT, Bob Hardy, bassist from Franz Ferdinand?? Do they make that guitar in Bass, or am I LOSING MY MIND???
I’m not saying the Gibson SG is controlling our thoughts through indie rock… I’m just saying, it could. If you see this guitar elsewhere, let me know. I’m collecting evidence for my new book, “This Guitar Plays You, and Other Crackpot Theories.”
(Images by me, IGIF, Elle, I think that’s everyone.)
Think of the SG as a smaller, lighter, and more ergonomic relative of the Les Paul. That makes it a nice choice for someone who might be a little on the small side or who likes to jump around a lot while playing live (like Carrie Brownstein or Angus Young), but who still like the sound of a Gibson.
