Albums I Am Too Poor To Buy
by Michael
*UPDATED* Michael e-mailed me at 5:43 A.M. about this, so check it.
After spending a summer unemployed and jet-setting about to New York City, Washington D.C., Vermont, and Orlando, I have absolutely no money left. To celebrate, please commiserate with me about all the recently released albums that I will not be able to purchase… for a little while.
NOM – Fishboy
As some of you may remember, during my salute to Rock Operas, Fishboy himself announced that he would soon be releasing an EP of remixed B-sides from Albatross. That album is out now, and can be purchased at his store. Sadly I can’t offer you guys a music sample, but you can find some of those on the website. Hopefully he will bring some with him when he eventually tours the good coast.
No One’s First and You’re Next – Modest Mouse
I have already posted roughtly half of this album as each 7″ single leading up to the release came out, but having all of the songs together will be cheaper and more convenient than buying all the 7″s. Also, dear God, SO FUCKING GOOD!!!!!!!
LP - Discovery
Man, you take Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend and Wes Miles from Ra Ra Riot, and have them make electric soul. How can you not jump up and down squealing like a teenage girl in the 90′s who just groped Howie D? (Ed note–I have no idea what this means.)
3 Rounds and a Sound – Blind Pilot
As die hards remember, guest blogger Wes Tucker offered up a glowing review of these guys a few months ago. I know that this album has been out for over a year, but it has just recently shown up on my radar. Since then I have become more and more a fan of the hollow vocals, amazing music, and expert lyrics.
Up From Below – Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
*gutteral noises* sooooooooooo goooooooooood. I am going to see these guys on Saturday for $5 at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, so hopefully their album will be affordable once I’m there. If not, I may be forced to break the bank for how amazing these guys are. Words, they cannot even express it.
I like these Magnetic Zeros guys, but I’d like them better if they were playing NOT at Jammin’ Java. Some of us don’t have cars, yo.
Also, the Discovery song has these lines:
“Sleep on the train to Tokyo/Google yourself when you get home.”
Those guys just upped the ante for ridiculously awesome lyrics that will sound dated in 10 years.
