George Harrison. Better Dead Than Paul McCartney Alive
by Michael
Recently, a best-of George Harrison album was released. I decided that since our blog has taken on a focus on the Beatles recently, I would give it a listen.
Even though I often voice my indifference towards The Beatles, I respect George Harrison. This album has definitely solidified for me how awesome he is. From the perfectly 80′s “Got My Mind Set On You” (which was actually written in the 60′s), to the beautifully mellow and totally Harrisony ”My Sweet Lord,” it is gonna be hard to for me to stop listening to this on a regular basis.
My favorite parts of the album are the live, solo versions of “Here Comes the Sun” and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” which serve as a nice “I can do it better on my own” moments; and getting flashes of other artists styles and intonations so you really see how much George Harrison’s solo stuff influenced modern music. The two I heard the most on my first go ’round were Ray Lamontagne, and Darren Jessee (insert joke about unappreciated member of a successful band), but the list goes on.
I leave you with some songs to reflect on.
My Personal Favorite:
I always liken Darren to John, but George Harrison might be better. Bravo, Mikey.
I would very much like to hear this album, after reading your glowing review and listening to these songs a few times. Please make the CD available to me the weekend I’m in Qtown for the tri. (It’d also be rad if your Microsoft Office disc were available to me that weekend too.)
