New(ish) for Friday: Sampled Song Smackdown!

I put April Smith’s CD on my list of albums to download when I get an external hard drive to save my poor little motherboard from its impending liquification. Her voice is  unreal! Also I’m pretty sure Mikey has a crush on her.

Contrast her subtle incorporation of the 80′s classic with its hip-hop counterpart, which beats all subtlety out of the lyrics to make it blatantly about the beej. (Come on! Everyone knows that is what “go down” means.)

Full disclosure, posting this was the first time I ever listened to that song all the way through, and my ears are bleeding a little bit.
